Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the Appeal Scout archive and our professional services.

Access & Subscriptions

How does the Day Pass work?

The Day Pass (£10) provides 24 hours of unrestricted access to the entire archive. This includes full Case Reference numbers, precise site addresses, and the ability to download official PDF Decision Notices. It is a one-time payment and does not auto-renew.

Is the Professional Subscription better for architects?

Yes. The Professional tier (£50/month) is designed for high-volume users. It removes the 24-hour window, provides unlimited PDF downloads for genuine research use (see our Fair Use Policy), and grants access to our deep historical archive (dating back 10+ years), which is vital for long-term policy research.

Can I get a VAT receipt for my firm?

Absolutely. After any purchase, an automated receipt is sent to your email. If you need a formal VAT invoice for your firm's accounts, just get in touch with support and we'll issue one directly.

Data & The Archive

Where is this data sourced from?

Our data is aggregated directly from the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) records under the Open Government Licence v3.0. We then enrich this raw data by geocoding sites, extracting specific proposal descriptions, and indexing the full text of decisions.

Why is some text blurred on the search results?

To protect the commercial value of our archive, specific technical details (like the Inspector's reasoning and full address) are restricted to paid users. Purchasing a Day Pass or Subscription instantly lifts these restrictions across the entire site.

How accurate are the "Borough Success Rates"?

Our analytics are based on actual historical outcomes from our database of 182,000+ cases. While they provide a powerful indicator of how a specific council behaves, they should be used as a guide rather than a guarantee of future success.

Planzo Consultancy

What is the difference between Appeal Scout and Planzo?

Appeal Scout is a self-service research tool for those handling their own appeals. Planzo is our sister consultancy that provides a "Done-For-You" service, where our experts write and manage your entire appeal for a fixed fee.

How much does Planzo representation cost?

For standard Householder developments (like loft conversions or extensions), we charge a fixed-fee of £750. For more complex S78 or Enforcement cases, we provide bespoke quotations based on the technical requirements of the case.
